Fodder inflation and how the govt’s blueprint to tackle it remains on paper

In India, fodder inflation reached a nine-year high in 2022. This rising price of fodder became a massive burden on farmers and cattle-rearers whose main source of income is livestock. And a recent Indian Express series has revealed that the government saw this crisis coming two years ago. The government, in fact, made a blueprint to combat inflation and help farmers. But most of their plans remained on paper and farmers are struggling to feed their cattle. This crisis also came at a time when cattle-rearers are also fighting the deadly Lumpy Skin Disease across the country. Indian Express’ Harikishan Sharma, who reported on this and the government plan that remained on paper, joins us in this episode to shed a light on the crisis and how farmers are struggling because of it.
