Three explosives devices found Saturday in New York and New Jersey used the same kind of flip cellphone as a trigger and were all made with commonly available materials that can be bought without raising law-enforcement suspicions. Two of the bombs, including one that exploded in Manhattan and wounded 29 people, were made with pressure cookers similar to those used in the 2013 attack at the Boston Marathon.
A federal law enforcement official says a pipe bomb that exploded in a New Jersey shore town was made with a threaded pipe fitted with end caps. The official was not authorized to publicly discuss details of the ongoing investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity.
A 28-year-old naturalized citizen originally from Afghanistan has been arrested in connection with the bombings.
