Iran, US, Israel War Ceasefire Talks News Highlights: Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian discussed the latest developments about the ceasefire in a phone call Sunday, the Kremlin said. Pezeshkian briefed Putin on the US-Iran talks held in Pakistan and said that Iran is ready for a “balanced and fair agreement, that guarantees stable peace and security.” The Kremlin said that Putin “emphasised his readiness” to help bring about a diplomatic settlement to the hostilities and “establish a just and lasting peace” in West Asia.

Hours after US and Iran delegations made no headway in setting terms for a ceasefire deal, US President Trump predicted that the Iranians come back to the bargaining table “and give us everything we want.” In a post on Truth Social, Trump said that the American Navy from now on will block any and all ships entering the Strait of Hormuz and would also interdict every vessel in ‌international waters that ‌had paid a ‌toll to Iran.

Door open for negotiation?: Iranian Parliament Speaker and lead negotiator in talks with the US, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said that the US delegation “failed to gain our trust” but kept the door open for another round of talks. In a post on X, he said it was now “time for the US to decide whether it can earn our trust or not.” His remarks came after high-stakes talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad ended without a breakthrough after 21 hours of negotiations.

What happened in the peace talks: Delegations led by Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Bagher Ghalibaf met in Pakistan’s capital for face-to-face negotiations aimed at securing a ceasefire and a broader peace framework. The discussions stretched over nearly a full day, with Pakistan’s leadership facilitating multiple rounds. While both sides acknowledged “substantive discussions”, they failed to bridge differences on core demands, particularly US insistence on guarantees that Iran would not develop nuclear weapons.

Iran-US Ceasefire Talks in Islamabad Live Updates: US’s planned blockade signals an escalation after talks fail in Islamabad

After the US walked away from those peace talks in Islamabad with essentially no deal on any of its demands.

And now Trump at first said that this US naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz would impact all ships coming and going from the strait.

Well, then CENTCOM issued a narrowing order, rather saying that it is only ships that will be leaving or coming to ports in Iran.

Also, missing from the CENTCOM’s statement is any mention of the tolls that the president had mentioned earlier. He said that any international vessel that paid Iran a toll to travel through the strait would be pursued by the US Navy and would not be granted safe passage.

That is, in contrast to the CENTCOM statement that said that there will be freedom of navigation for any vessels that bypass these Iranian ports.

We’ve been at it now for 21 hours, and we’ve had a number of substantive discussions with the Iranians. That’s the good news,” Vance said.

“The bad news is that we have not reached an agreement, and I think that’s bad news for Iran much more than it’s bad news for the United States of America. So, we go back to the United States, having not come to an agreement. We’ve made very clear what our red lines are, what things we’re willing to accommodate them on, and what things we’re not willing to accommodate them on. Negotiations between the United States and Iran appeared to have concluded for now, Iran's government said early on Sunday, after a series of talks in Pakistan to end the six-week war between Washington and Tehran.

The talks in Islamabad were the first direct US-Iranian meeting in more than a decade and the highest-level discussions since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The outcome could determine the fate of the fragile two-week ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint for about 20% of global energy supplies that Iran has blocked since the war began. The conflict has sent global oil prices soaring and killed thousands of people.

In a post on X, Iran's government said that after 14 hours, the talks had concluded and technical experts from both sides would exchange documents.

Iran-US Ceasefire News Live Updates: Tehran says ‘can't remove or locate all its mines in Strait of Hormuz’

Iran has been unable to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as it struggles to locate and remove naval mines it allegedly deployed during the conflict, US officials told The New York Times. According to them, Iran laid the mines in a scattered manner and did not properly document their locations. Even those that were recorded may have drifted due to water movement, making removal more difficult.

Naval mines are notoriously hard to clear, and US officials noted that even the American military lacks fully reliable methods to extract them.

The situation could complicate peace talks scheduled in Islamabad this weekend, as it may also explain why Iran has not yet complied with US President Donald Trump’s demand to reopen the key shipping route.
