The poll by Reuters/Ipsos was conducted over a period of three days from Aug 23-25 and it showed Donald Trump’s approach towards economy and crime issues being preferred by 43% of the respondents in comparison to 40% for Vice President Kamala Harris.
Reuters in its report said that the difference between the two presidential candidates was 3% which was too small to be significant given the poll’s 4 percentage point margin of error.
A poll by Reuters/Ipsos in late July showed Trump leading with a 11 percentage lead when it came to economic issues.
On the topic of crime and corruption, the poll saw a tie breaker between Harris and Trump with 40% but a slight advantage for Democratic candidate as she was trailing by 5 points against Trump in the poll held in July.
Since President Joe Biden announced his departure from the presidential bid, Vice President Kamala Harris became the mascot for the party and a national poll by Reuters/Ipsos in late July revealed a 1 point lead for Harris with 43% and Trump stood at 42%.
The latest poll data had 1,028 adults participating which included 902 registered voters.
Trump has been gaining supporters including former Democrat Tulsi Gabbard, independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr who decided to suspend his campaign and endorse Trump for the presidential bid.
Interestingly, Robert F. Kennedy Jr had amassed a support of 8% in the Reuters/Ipsos July poll and it remains to be seen which side the support base Kennedy shifts to.
The US presidential election is scheduled on November 5.
