An Indian-origin woman, Harshita Brella, who was found dead last month in east London had reportedly told her mother that her husband “was going to kill her”.

Harshita’s body was found in a boot of a car left behind in east London though the UK police believes that the 24-year-old was strangled to death in Corby, Northamptonshire on November 10 and later on driven to Ilford before her body was discovered on November 14.

Harshita’s husband Pankaj Lamba is the prime suspect in the case, according to police.

Harshita’s mother, Sudesh Kumari, in an interview to BBC said that “Pankaj was making her life miserable.” Kumari further added that “Harshita said ‘I will not go back to him. He will kill me’.”

An international manhunt had started for Pankaj after Harshita’s body was found but after a month, her husband still remains at large. Harshita’s family believes that Pankaj is somewhere in India but the police in India are “not listening” to them.

The Northamptonshire Police have said that their investigation “continues at pace and it is following numerous lines of enquiry,” without confirming whether they have been in contact with Indian authorities regarding the case.

Harshita’s family also alleged in the interview that she had a miscarriage before her death. Her father Satbir Brella told BBC, “I used to say to her, when I die I want you to perform my final rites. I had no idea that I would have to do hers.”

Assistant Chief Constable of Northamptonshire Police Emma James said, “Maintaining the integrity of our investigation and securing justice for Harshita is our number one priority and as a result of that, there are certain aspects of this case that we are unable to comment on at the moment.”

Satbir Brella also claimed that Harshita said her husband Pankaj beat him “really badly” and he even thrashed him on the street.
