On a day when Madhesi agitators clashed with Indian nationals at the Indo-Nepal border in Bihar, Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli Thursday said that the “undeclared blockade” that Nepal is facing must end immediately and “unconditionally”.

Speaking at the UN office here to mark 60th anniversary of Nepal’s membership to the UN, Oli said: “At present, the entire population of the country faces critical challenges of a humanitarian nature due to the undeclared blockade at our southern border points. This difficult situation must come to an end immediately and unconditionally.”

He said the country was grateful to the UN Secretary General for his concern over “an alarming obstruction of essential supplies and the continued impact on humanitarian operations” in the country as well as for his call “for immediate lifting of all restrictions while underlining Nepal’s right of free transit.”
