The loud noise heard a while back in Paris and nearby suburbs was due to a fighter jet breaking sound barrier and not a blast, confirmed Paris Police on Twitter, as reported by Reuters.

The sound rattled windows and was heard across the city, as people made frantic phone calls to the police. The police also requested people to not clog up their emergency phone lines.

Paris was in news recently when two people were seriously wounded in last week’s stabbing in the city, which took place outside the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo’s former offices where Islamic extremists killed 12 people in January 2015.
