Kremlin backs India’s call for peace in Ukraine, rejects Zelenskyy’s plan

Peskov also dismissed Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s proposed plan to end the conflict, asserting that Russia would continue its "special military operation" in Ukraine.

The Kremlin announced on Wednesday that India’s position on a peaceful resolution for the Ukraine conflict aligns with Russia’s worldview. According to a Reuters report, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that while Russia supports India’s advocacy for a peaceful settlement, it is “more than obvious” that there is no basis for negotiations at the moment.

On Tuesday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed to Russian President Vladimir Putin his support for an early, peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict. This followed Modi’s recent discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv last week.

Peskov also dismissed Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s proposed plan to end the conflict, asserting that Russia would continue its “special military operation” in Ukraine. “This is not the first time we have heard such statements from the Kyiv regime,” Peskov remarked, emphasizing Russia’s commitment to achieving its goals.

Additionally, the Kremlin warned that European consumers could face increased prices if the current gas transit deal via Ukraine is not renewed by its expiration on December 31. Peskov indicated that while Russia might explore alternative routes, European customers would bear the cost of higher prices. Ukraine has expressed that it has no intention of negotiating a new gas transit deal with Russia.
