Israel intensifies southern Gaza offensive as death toll crosses 50,000 since start of Israel-Hamas war

The death toll in Gaza, which currently stands at 50,021, is about 2.1% of the 2.3 million pre-war population of Palestine. Palestine’s health ministry said that 113,274 others had been injured since the war began on October 7, 2023.

The Israeli military resumed its offensive in Gaza earlier this week as the ceasefire agreement with Hamas fell over as Tel Aviv claimed that the Gaza based militant group refused to agree to the revised terms on extending the first phase of the ceasefire.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) earlier on Sunday issued a warning to evacuate the Tel Sultan area of Rafah in southern Gaza as the military launched its attack against Hamas militants.

In a post, the IDF said it had “launched an attack to strike at terrorist organizations…The area you are in is considered a dangerous combat zone.”

As per reports, the Israeli airstrike killed at least 30 Palestinians on Sunday in Rafah and Khan Younis region.

The Israel’s military, in a statement said “Over the past hours, IDF troops operated and concluded the encirclement of Tel al-Sultan in Rafah.”
