Indian-origin woman killed in Toronto: Man arrested 7 months later
Abdul Ghafoori, 32, was charged with first-degree murder after Toronto police located him on Friday; Khurana, 30, was found dead inside a residence in December 2025.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested in Toronto, seven months after Indian-origin woman Himanshi Khurana was found dead inside a residence, police said. Abdul Ghafoori was arrested on Friday and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Khurana’s death, Toronto Police said.
Ghafoori was scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Saturday. The first-degree murder charge remains an allegation until tested in court.

On December 19, 2025, Toronto Police received a missing-person report at about 10:41 pm from the Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West area. Officers began searching for Khurana and found her dead inside a residence at around 6:30 am the following morning. Her death was classified as a homicide.
After Khurana’s body was found, Toronto Police launched a homicide investigation.
After identifying Ghafoori as a suspect, police issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest on a charge of first-degree murder. The police released the images of the victim and suspect as part of their investigation and appealed to the public for assistance in locating him.

The High Commission of India in Ottawa had said it was in touch with Canadian authorities and offering assistance to the victim’s family. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of an Indian-origin woman in Toronto. The High Commission is closely coordinating with local authorities and providing all possible support to the bereaved family,” the High Commission said in a statement.
