The leaders of France, Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom arrived in Kyiv on Saturday in a joint visit to support growing calls for a 30-day cease-fire in the war between Russia and Ukraine.

The leaders travelled together by train and are expected to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during their visit. This marks the first time all four leaders have travelled to Ukraine together. It is also the first visit to Ukraine by Friedrich Merz since becoming Germany’s chancellor.

According to the Associated Press, the European leaders joined US President Donald Trump in calling for a one-month halt in fighting to create space for peace talks.

“We support President Trump’s efforts to reach a peace agreement and call on Russia to stop blocking steps towards lasting peace,” the leaders said in a joint statement, as reported by AP.
