US President Donald Trump on Tuesday urged all Iranians to “immediately evacuate” Tehran as airstrikes and missile attacks between Israel and Iran continued to intensify for the fifth straight day. In a post on Truth Social, he said that Iran should have “signed the deal” to curb nuclear weapons development, calling the current situation “a shame.”

Trump is due to leave the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Canada Tuesday, a day earlier than scheduled, due to the escalating tensions in the Middle East region, the White House said in a statement.

“Iran should have signed the “deal” I told them to sign. What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!” his post read.

While speaking to news agency Reuters on the first day of Israel’s offensive against Iran, Trump had said that the US gave Iran 60 days to come to an agreement to stop uranium enrichment, but the time has passed and no deal was achieved.

In a follow-up post, Trump tied his firm stance on Iran’s nuclear program to his broader political message, stating, “AMERICA FIRST means many GREAT things, including the fact that, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

Meanwhile, at the G7 Summit in Canada, French President Emmanuel Macron hailed Trump’s departure as a positive sign, saying that a ceasefire between Israel and Iran is the top priority.

Explosions were heard in Iran in the early hours of Tuesday, with the country’s air defences activated, reported local media. Further, an explosion was heart in Israel as air raid sirens wailed in Tel Aviv after midnight.

Iranian officials said 224 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in five days, while Israel said 24 civilians had been killed, reported Reuters. Israeli officials also said that thousands of citizens have been evacuated so far due to Iranian strikes.

Pushing for a ceasefire, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on X, “If President Trump is genuine about diplomacy and interested in stopping this war, next steps are consequential. Israel must halt its aggression, and absent a total cessation of military aggression against us, our responses will continue.”
