US President Donald Trump has announced a special programme for the country’s military personnel. Under the programme, over 1.45 million military service members will receive a special “Warrior Dividend” of $1,776 each before Christmas, Trump said.

Emphasising that no one deserves the dividend more than the military, the US president attributed the funds to tariffs and a recently passed bill, citing the country’s founding in 1776 as inspiration for the amount.

“Because of tariffs, along with the just passed one big beautiful bill, tonight, I am also proud to announce that more than 1,450,000 military service members will receive a special, we call, warrior dividend before Christmas, a warrior dividend in honour of our nation’s founding in 1776. We are sending every soldier $1,776,” Trump said while addressing the nation on Wednesday (Dec 18).

“And the checks are already on the way. We made a lot more money than anybody thought because of tariffs and the bill helped us along. Nobody deserves it more than our military. And I say congratulations to everybody,” he added.

The move is a part of the Trump administration’s efforts to recognise the nation’s military personnel.

Trump says Biden pushed US to ‘brink of ruin’

During his address to the nation on Wednesday, Trump listed his ‘achievements’. He claimed that the United States was now “the hottest country in the world”.

Slamming his predecessor Joe Biden and the Democrats for “mismanagement” and pushing the country to the “brink of ruin”, he said that his administration brought more positive change to Washington than “any administration in American history”.

“Eleven months ago, I inherited a mess, and I’m fixing it,” Trump said.

“We had the worst trade deals ever made and our country was laughed at from all over the world. But they’re not laughing anymore… Over the past 11 months we have brought more positive change to Washington than any administration in American history. There’s never been anything like it, and I think most would agree,” he added.
