Bangladesh court issues arrest warrant against ex-PM Sheikh Hasina, 45 others for ‘crimes against humanity’
Hasina faces nearly 200 cases, primarily related to murders that occurred during the mass student protests. More than 230 people were killed in Bangladesh during the protests, which ultimately led to the fall of Hasina's government.

Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal issued an arrest warrant Thursday against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India in August following a massive student-led protest in Bangladesh.
Along with Hasina, arrest warrants were also issued for 45 others, including her close aides and top Awami League leaders, in connection with alleged crimes against humanity.
The tribunal’s chairman, Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar, passed the orders after the prosecution filed two petitions seeking the arrest warrants, according to Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam, as reported by the Daily Star.
So far, over 60 complaints of enforced disappearances, murders, and mass killings have been filed with the ICT against Hasina, other leaders of her Awami League party, members of the 14-party alliance, journalists, and former top law enforcement officials.
“The court has ordered the arrest of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and has directed her and the 45 others to appear in court on November 18,” Tajul Islam said.
Hasina faces nearly 200 cases, primarily related to murders that occurred during the mass student protests. More than 230 people were killed in Bangladesh during the protests, which ultimately led to the fall of Hasina’s government, bringing the total death toll to over 600 since the student demonstrations against a controversial quota system in government jobs began in mid-July.
