The flights canceled during the peak travel season, includes services to San Francisco and Chicago among others. The airline route of India and US is bound to be affected in November and December this year as the non-availability of aircrafts due to maintenance issues has forced Air India, the Tata group owned airline, to cancel 60 flights, an airline source told PTI.
Partially confirming the development, Air India in a statement said that due to delayed return of some aircraft from heavy maintenance and supply chain constraints, the airline has canceled a small number of flights between November and December.
The airline further said that the affected passengers have been informed and offered flights on other group flights of Air India which are operating on the same or adjacent days, reported PTI.
The PTI, quoting a source reported, “Air India has canceled some 60 flights to and from San Francisco, Washington, Chicago, Newark and New York between November 15 and December 31, as it does not have adequate wide-body aircraft to operate some of the flights to these destinations.”
Air India operates five flights between Delhi and Washington, while Delhi to New York and Mumbai to New York have seven flights per week. To San Francisco, Air India operates flights from three destinations, namely Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. On the route of Delhi to Chicago, Air India operates seven flights every week.
An Air India spokesperson said, “Due to the delayed return of some aircraft from heavy maintenance and supply chain constraints resulting in a temporary reduction in operating fleet, Air India regrets that a small number of flights have been canceled between now and end-December.”
