Who was Harshita Dahiya?

Harshita Dahiya, 22, had recorded a live video on Facebook on October 12 alleging that there was a threat to her life.

Harshita Dahiya, a folk singer from Haryana, was shot dead in Panipat on Tuesday while returning from a show. According to sources, her car was waylaid while she was travelling back to Sonipat from the event in Panipat. She was shot after other occupants were asked to vacate the car.

Harshita Dahiya, 22, was a well-known Haryanvi folk singer and stage performer. She hailed from Nahra-Nahri village of Sonipat district but lived in Narela, Delhi. Dahiya had recorded a live video on Facebook on October 12 alleging that there was a threat to her life. She is seen angrily rebuking the people threatening her and calls her Dahiya brotherhood to stand up for her. The video is almost half-an-hour long with Dahiya often breaking into expletives.

Panipat SP Rahul Sharma said they suspected the role of a gangster named Dinesh. According to police, Dahiya had earlier filed a complaint against Dinesh, who is currently lodged in Tihar jail. He is accused of murdering Dahiya’s mother and the singer was an eyewitness. The police said they have sent her body for postmortem and investigations have begun.
