76th Republic Day in India 2025: With January 26 fast approaching, India is preparing to observe one of its most significant national holidays—Republic Day. However, there is a point of confusion: Is this year India’s 76th or 77th Republic Day?
While India obtained independence on August 15, 1947, it was not until three years later, on January 26, 1950, that the country formally approved its Constitution and became a republic.
As a result, in 2025, India will celebrate its 76th Republic Day under the theme “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas” (Golden India: Legacy and Progress), which will highlight India’s rich cultural legacy and hopes for a brighter future.
In a notable mention, H.E. Prabowo Subianto, the President of Indonesia, has been invited as the Chief Guest this year, and it will be his first visit to India as President since assuming office in October 2024.
The primary event of the day, the Republic Day Parade, will showcase the country’s cultural diversity and military strength and will be held in the capital, New Delhi.
It follows a historic route, beginning at Rashtrapati Bhavan, while proceeding along Kartavya Path, passing India Gate, and finishing at the Red Fort.
Before the march begins, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay a wreath at the National War Memorial in commemoration of the dead warriors.
This year’s Republic Day events will feature over 10,000 distinguished visitors, including disaster relief workers, handloom artists, tribal beneficiaries, and Paralympic athletes.
