National Pollution Control Day 2025 Date and History: National Pollution Control Day is marked on December 2nd each year in India to honour the memory of those who lost their lives in the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy. This year, it will be observed on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

The Bhopal Gas Tragedy claimed the lives of at least 4,000 people when a pesticide facility owned by the American chemical corporation Union Carbide began to leak toxic methyl isocyanate gas into a populated area in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

It is considered one of history’s most tragic industrial incidents, turning the city of Bhopal into a gas chamber.

The national day serves as a reminder of the disastrous consequences of industrial carelessness.

Additionally, it also emphasises the significance of establishing appropriate pollution control measures and raising awareness about the risks of environmental contamination.
