Rain, thunderstorms likely again in Delhi today; fresh heatwave spell to hit NCR, North India early next week
IMD Weather Rain Update in UP, Delhi, Jharkhand, Mumbai, Rajasthan: IMD forecasted that heatwave conditions will prevail in Delhi, parts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab from April 14 to April 16, with the mercury likely to go past 40 degrees Celsius again.
IMD Weather Rain Update in UP, Delhi, Jharkhand, Mumbai, Rajasthan: The national capital is likely to experience respite from the heatwave again Saturday with the weather department forecasting a fresh spell of rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm. The forecast follows two consecutive days of massive dust storms and lightning in Delhi and nearby cities in the national capital region.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted cloudy skies and light rains in parts of Delhi and NCR on Saturday afternoon. Thunderstorms and strong surface winds are expected throughout the day, bringing the temperature of the city a few degrees down for the weekend.
On Saturday and Sunday, wind speeds are expected to reach 20-30 kmph and gusting up to 40 kmph. The sky is likely to clear up by Sunday morning, with the heatwave making a comeback from next week.
Delhi and Uttar Pradesh experienced a sudden change in weather on Thursday and Friday after experiencing the season’s first heatwave earlier this month. While rain brought respite from the scorching heat in Delhi NCR, lightning strikes and hailstorms in Bihar claimed 61 lives in the last 24 hours.
Heatwave to make a comeback in Delhi, north India
After the rain subsides in Delhi and nearby cities over the weekend, temperatures are expected to soar once again in the national capital. IMD forecasted that heatwave conditions will prevail in Delhi, parts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab from April 14 to April 16, with the mercury likely to go past 40 degrees Celsius again.
After the rainfall subsides, heatwave conditions are also expected in parts of Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu from Monday.
Rainfall, thunderstorms in many states
Not just Delhi, but heavy rains and thunderstorms are predicted on Saturday in isolated parts of Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, coastal Andhra Pradesh and some parts of Karnataka.

Lightening and dust storms are predicted in Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan over the weekend.
