Delhi’s air quality deteriorates again, AQI slips closer to ‘severe’ category
After nearly breaching the ‘poor’ category mark as the AQI dropped to 199 on Sunday evening, Mumbai maintained its air quality in the ‘moderate category’ with an AQI of 135

After a short respite, Delhi’s air quality inched closer to the ‘severe’ category with the air quality index (AQI) at 394 as of 9 am Tuesday.
The air quality slipping into the ‘very poor’ category again has been attributed to a drop in wind speed which hinders the dispersion of pollutants in the air.
Meanwhile, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) in NCR and adjoining areas on Monday announced the relaxation of the GRAP norms currently applicable in all educational institutions. The option to exercise online mode of education, wherever the mode is feasible, shall vest with the students and parents, said the Commission in its order. The order came after the Supreme Court asked CAQM to review resuming physical classes.
The state governments of Delhi, and Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddh Nagar in the national capital region have also been asked to ensure that the classes are conducted in a hybrid mode.
‘Very poor’ till Wednesday
According to the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology’s forecast, the air quality is forecast to be in the ‘very poor’ category in the national capital till Wednesday. In its outlook for the subsequent six days, the air quality is expected to fluctuate between ‘very poor’ and ‘severe’ conditions.
Additionally, the Met Office has forecast moderate fog conditions till Wednesday after which, dense fog is expected on Thursday.
Mumbai, Pune and Kolkata
After nearly breaching the ‘poor’ category mark as the AQI dropped to 199 on Sunday evening, Mumbai maintained its air quality in the ‘moderate category’ with an AQI of 135. Meanwhile, Pune and Kolkata, continue to remain in the ‘moderate category’ with an AQI of 159 and 161 respectively.

Hyderabad, Patna
While Patna inches closer to ‘very poor’ air quality with an AQI of 196, Hyderabad continues to remain in the upper end of the ‘moderate category’ with an AQI of 172.
Bengaluru
The overall air quality of Bengaluru was observed under ‘satisfactory’ category on Tuesday morning with AQI of 84.
AQI readings are classified as follows: 0-50 is good, 51-100 is satisfactory, 101-200 is moderate, 201-300 is poor, 301-400 is very poor, and above 400 is severe.
