Cold wave to continue in North India over next 2 days; flight, train operations impacted

A rise by 2-3 degrees in minimum temperatures is likely over many parts of Central and East India during the next 3 days and no significant change thereafter, the Met Department said.

Intense cold wave conditions will continue in several states across North India over the next two days, according to The India Meteorological Department’s latest forecast.

According to the IMD’s daily report, cold wave conditions are likely in parts of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan on Friday and Saturday. These states will also witness dense to very dense fog over the next three days, IMD said.

Residents of the National Capital woke up to dense fog on Friday morning, while the minimum temperature settled at 9.4 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD. The weather office has forecast shallow to moderate fog and cold day conditions at a few places in the national capital during the day, PTI reported.

At least 22 trains were running late due to poor visibility, according to information shared by railway officials.

Meanwhile, budget carrier IndiGo announced flight operations to and from Jaipur, Patna and Amritsar have been impacted due to bad weather.

In Jammu and Kashmir, minimum temperatures rose slightly on Friday after days of continued sub-zero temperatures, PTI reported.

Srinagar city recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3 degrees Celsius on Wednesday night, compared to minus 3.8 degrees Celsius on the previous night, officials told  PTI.

Meanwhile , moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to occur in parts of South India, including Tamil Nadu, south Kerala and Lakshadweep
