— The West Asia conflict, which resulted in major airspace disruptions in the Gulf region, led to a 9% year-on-year (y-o-y) decline in international air passenger traffic to and from India in the first quarter of the current financial year.

22 Indians on board 2 ships hijacked near Yemen and Somalia

— A total of 22 Indian seafarers are on board two ships that were hijacked by armed pirates off the coast of Somalia and Yemen this week, according to sources aware of the developments.

— Sources said that while the shipping companies related to the two vessels are working in close coordination with the government, the seafarers are learnt to be safe.

— The two vessels are Eritrea-flagged oil products tanker Sibu 1, which was hijacked in the Gulf of Aden off the coast of Yemen Thursday, and Cameroon-flagged general cargo carrier Lutuf, which was hijacked on Monday (August 17) off Somalia’s coast.
