Why in the news?

The world paid tribute to Dr. Manmohan Singh who died on Thursday (26th December) at the age of 92. He is the chief architect of the economic reforms, particularly the LPG (Liberalization, Privatization, and Globalization) policy in the 1990s, which transformed India’s economic trajectory. The Union government has declared a seven-day mourning period for Singh and has canceled all government programs scheduled for Friday.
