Of fairytale weddings, this is one from the Indian archives that would definitely make it to the top of the list in post-Independence India.
The year 1968 stood witness to the iconic wedding between Rajiv Gandhi to Sonia Maino, now Sonia Gandhi on February 25. The video from the AP archives was uploaded by British Movietone on YouTube recently, and gives you a chance to enter a world that has been otherwise just written about or spoken of.
In attendance were then President Zakir Hussain, the Rajiv Gandhi’s brother Sanjay Gandhi, aunt Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, and Sonia Gandhi’s family except her father who didn’t attend the wedding.
