On October 28, visitors who had come to the spectacular view offered by at Meinv dam in China’s Hangzhou city were washed away by strong tidal bores of Qiantang River. A CCTV News footage, that was released on October 30, shows the tidal bore rapidly coming towards the mainland. Shockingly, visitors — instead of running to safety after watching high tides — stood watching till the water gushed onto the path.
Nearly 20 people who were standing ran for safety but by then it was too late, and many were washed away. Fortunately no casualties were reported, however, a few were injured.
Reportedly the tidal bore was caused because the moon was closest to the river in 413 days resulting in high tides.
