Towering above sea level, Mount Everest attracts thousands of adventure seekers and climbers from across the world every year. However, a recent viral video has raised serious concerns about environmental damage caused by human activity on the world’s tallest peak.
A video shared on X by Parveen Kaswan, an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer, has sparked widespread outrage on social media. The viral clip reportedly shows Camp Four on Mount Everest littered with plastic bottles, snack wrappers, soft drink cans, abandoned tents, and other waste, which can be seen scattered across the snow, presenting a disturbing sight at an altitude known as the “death zone.”

Sharing the video, Kaswan questioned the impact of human presence on fragile ecosystems. “Even the highest of peaks are not safe the moment a human reaches there. This is Everest Camp 4. Do you really think mountains are calling?” he wrote on X.

The video quickly gained traction on social media, with many users expressing anger and disappointment. “Govt should ensure that People leave the mountains alone for a couple of years,” a user wrote. “There should be a book in the education system on how to keep the environment clean,” another user commented.
“Absolutely appalling to see this kind of irresponsible behaviour in the name of achievements .. in our ancient culture we always considered the high mountain peaks holy and pure and hence for millennia they remained pristine and gave us pure water and life .. now as the mother sources have been made impure due to greed and lack of enforcement bad days are in store for us. In one or two generations one would see the irreversible effects,” a third user reacted to the post.
