A Kalyan man went to a police station for his passport verification wearing shorts. The man alleged that the policemen lost their temper and humiliated him for his choice of clothes. He later uploaded two videos of his experience at Khdakpada police station that has created lot of buzz on Facebook.
In his post, Mangesh Desale wrote, “I was wearing shorts so they started shouting at me for that. I asked them if there is any rule of dress code in police station. They did not show me any rules but said this is India not America. We live in free country and we have right to choose our clothes unless its written rule.” He recorded two police officials on camera who can be heard asking him “if this the way to dress up and come to the police station?” The cops further asked if he didn’t have manners to wear proper clothes.
They were angry when asked about the specified dress code by Desale and he further alleged that he was kicked out of the station. “For arguing with them for this, they kept threatening me that they will file case on me also they manhandled me and took me out of police station forcibly,” he added in his post.
He later posted the same thing on Twitter and tagged Mumbai Police who replied that they have taken notice of his problem and have notified the concerned department. An officer of the Khadakpada police station told Mid-Day, “Our officials merely asked him to wear proper clothes while visiting the police station. Women come to the police station too, and shorts don’t look good. He is an engineer; he should have better manners and know how to present himself at a police station.”
The post got mixed reaction on Facebook and while some supported him, others argued that one should not wear shorts for any formal interview.
