In a surprising turn of events, a bride refused to stay with her in-laws, alleging unfriendly behaviour, just 20 minutes after reaching their residence, leading to the dissolution of the marriage. According to a report in Bhaskar English, the incident occurred in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district during the ‘Dulha Chehra Dikhai’ ceremony in front of family members and the neighbourhood on November 26, a day after their marriage.

The couple tied the knot on November 25 with grand celebrations at a marriage hall in the district. The ceremony proceeded with rituals including Jaimala, Dwar Puja, and others. However, when the bride arrived at her in-laws’ residence on November 26, she abruptly stopped a ritual and demanded to call her parents immediately, the report noted.

Despite several attempts by her husband and his family to pacify her, she refused to stay. Her parents arrived shortly afterwards and also tried to convince her. But the bride, who was allegedly unhappy over her in-laws’ behaviour, refused to change her decision.

As tensions escalated, a local panchayat was set up, and after nearly five hours of discussion, the marriage ended on mutual consent. The items and gifts exchanged during the wedding were returned, and the bride left with her family. The incident was briefly reported to Dial 112, but no formal complaint was filed, the report added.

The report further noted that Bhaluani police station in-charge Pradeep Pandey confirmed that the incident had been reported, but did not escalate into a police case. “Both parties separated by mutual consent in the panchayat itself,” he said.

The incident quickly caught the eye of social media, sparking a debate. “This is better than ruining so many lives after doing ‘adjustments’ for a few years,” a user wrote. “She and her family should be fined heavily and punished. People have made marriage a joke and an escape route. Where was this courage when it was just talks of marriage,” another user argued.

“Makes you wonder what must have happened. Would’ve been better if she hadn’t married at all,” a third user reacted.
