Twitterati on Sunday woke up to a poetic morning with Sumitranandan Pant running as a top trend on the micro-blogging site.

Pant, who is also known as the William Wordsworth of Hindi literature, has been honored with prestigious awards including Padma Bhushan, Sahitya Akademi and Gyanpeeth award.

Pant is known to be one of the four pillars of the ‘Chhayawad’ poetry in Hindi literature. The other three being equally prominent poets Mahadevi Verma, Jayshankar Prasad and Suryakant Tripathi Nirala.

He was a Left-leaning person whose thoughts were mostly inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and Karl Marx.

Born on May 20, 1900, Pant breathed his last on December 28, 1977.

Today’s trend can be attributed to one Narpati Chandra on Twitter who tweeted on Friday about Pant being the poet for a trend #Kavya or #Shair and the theme was supposed to be Prakriti (Nature).

It sure got a boost when La Trobe University’s Hindi Lecturer Ian Woolford also took to Twitter and urged people to tweet their favourite poems written by the poet.
