It was only recently that Gali Janardhan Reddy, a former BJP minister and mining baron in Karnataka married his daughter off in a Rs 500-crore wedding. From building replicas of palaces, to a 50-item menu for non-VIPs and a more lavish spread of about 100 items for VIPs, the wedding also came under scanner, mainly because it took place right after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had declared demonetisation of high-value currency notes. In a stark contrast in terms of opulent display of wealth, a businessman from Aurangabad district of Maharashtra decided to celebrate his daughter’s wedding by gifting 90 houses to the homeless poor.
According to ANI, Manoj Munot was inspired by Prashant Bamb, a young BJP MLA, to take this humanitarian step, instead of spending a huge sum of money on his daughter’s wedding. Munot had reportedly planned to spend Rs 70-80 lakh on the occasion before he had decided to spend the money for a better cause.
Reportedly, his daughter Shreya fully supports her father’s decision and is, in fact, absolutely happy with his move. Talking to ANI, his daughter said she considers her father’s decision the biggest gift for her wedding.
According to a report by The Quint, Shab Ali Shaikh, one of the beneficiaries of Munot’s help is happy that now she and her family will not have to deal with the problems of accessing even the basic needs like water and electricity.
A video by ANI shows the happy bride talking proudly about her father’s decision.
