It will not be an exaggeration to say that author and former diplomat Shashi Tharoor has a rather loyal fan base on social media. When the MP from Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram is not busy dispelling myths people from West have about India, he, through his tweets inadvertently, ends up teaching people some new words and enhance their dictionary. While he did fall prey to a typo recently, he is the English professor we all would like to have. It is no surprise then that a man from the recently held Delhi Pride Parade asked him to marry him! Yes, you read that right.
While members of the LGBTQI community walked at the 10th Queer Pride march in Delhi and asked questions, one of them had a proposal for Tharoor. A photo of a boy, with the Twitter handle Surya HK, holding a chart paper that read, “Shashi Tharoor, marry me” was posted on Instagram on November 13. Sharing the picture, Tarun Bora, an Instagram user, wrote, “And it’s not only him” on November 13. This was later drawn to Tharoor’s attention by a magazine and as usual Tharoor had the perfect response to this. “Mr. Shashi Tharoor you should really see this. You have a huge fan following,” read the tweet to which the author replied “Haha! Now if they were only registered to vote in Thiruvananthapuram, it would be even better!” His reponse impressed some people a great deal on social media and they did not hold back their appreciation. While some demanded him to be the Prime Minister of India another wrote “I wish I was eligible for voting in India… this guy is wowsome.”
This is the picture.
And then it was brought to his attention by a magazine.

And, like always, Tharoor floored all with his response.
Haha! Now if they were only registered to vote in Thiruvananthapuram, it would be even better! https://t.co/kGzj3T1mf9

People on social media really liked his reply and expressed it without mincing words.

And while some did try to be rather unkind with their comments, the boy who was holding the placard joined in the conversation and defended Tharoor and his own choice.
One advice never go with him in a hotel room

To this the boy replied.
