Maggi, often praised as a comfort food by many, also has a reputation as an unhealthy option for weight watchers. A recent wave of viral videos has brought attention to several odd combinations for Maggi – paan masala Maggi, Fanta Maggi, and pani puri Maggi. Now, an Instagram reel has taken things to a new level by making “roti Maggi”.

Mac Singh, known as @dietitianmacsingh on Instagram, shares weight loss recipes in his videos. In the said reel, he uses stale chapati to create a Maggi-inspired dish. He cuts leftover rotis into noodle-like strips, heats oil in a pot, and sautés onions, green chillies, and tomato puree. After seasoning with red chilli powder, turmeric, and salt, he mixes in the roti strips, combining them with the sauce before serving.

The video has taken off, racking up thousands of views and likes. While the dish in question is certainly a healthier alternative to Maggi noodles, it has ignited a discussion about whether it should really be labelled as “roti Maggi,” especially since there’s no actual Maggi used in the recipe.

“Maggie without Maggie,” one user wrote in the comments. Another user asked, “Hai toh gluten hi, kaise healthy ho gaya? (It’s still gluten, so how did it become healthy?)” to which Singh replied, “Mam we are not European, we can eat gluten. What I did with this recipe is used whole wheat instead of maida and home spices instead of Maggi masala which is again high in sodium.” A third user wrote, “Wow great I also cooked like this but some what different.”
