Australian chef and restaurateur Gary Mehigan, who was one of the original judges of MasterChef Australia, visited the famous outlet in Bengaluru ‘The Rameshwaram Cafe’ and tried various south Indian delicacies.
The 56-year-old took to Instagram to share a video of him trying various delicacies at the eatery. Mehigan shared a reel which showed him relishing ragi dosa, ghee roast dosa, medu vada, ghee idli podi, kesari baath and filter coffee.
“Well that was a ‘proper’ dosa…..Love this place @therameshwaramcafe We ate ragi dosa, ghee roast dosa, medu vada, ghee idli podi, kesari Baath and some seriously great filter coffee! I’ll be back,” Mehigan captioned the post.

The clip, however, evoked mixed reactions among netizens who said he could have found more “authentic” dosa elsewhere.
“Dosa originally dose was first invented in Udupi Karnataka. The closest to authentic dosa can be found in bangalore for sure,” a user wrote. “Sorry Gary… not this place… somehow it’s hyped … being a person from the south I don’t expect this amount of ghee in the stuffs and that’s totally a disaster and spoils the taste,” said another. “No no no. Not Rameshwaram café,” a netizen commented. “The gary mehigan was in bangalore and i missed seeing him roaming on the roads!!! The pain!” read still another post.
Mehigan, who describes himself on his Instagram bio as a “food obsessed traveller who loves sweeping roads to who knows where”, has earlier posted several videos of travelling to various parts of the country and experiencing different festivals.
