A woman in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, recently made headlines with a bold and unusual protest at the local police station. Frustrated by the police’s alleged inaction in a theft case, she took matters into her own hands, quite literally.
Instead of simply voicing her frustration, she and her family decided to perform an ‘aarti’ ceremony for the officer-in-charge at the Kotwali police station. This act, captured on video and shared widely on social media, was a stark display of her dissatisfaction with the police’s handling of the situation.
The incident unfolded after the police allegedly failed to file a First Information Report (FIR) despite a month-long investigation into the theft. Despite nearly a month passing, progress had yet to be made, and the woman felt that the authorities needed to take her case seriously.

In the video, the woman, accompanied by her husband and daughter, is seen conducting the ‘aarti’ ceremony inside the police station. This symbolic gesture was her way of highlighting the police’s responsibility to ensure public safety and promptly address citizens’ complaints. The frustration depicted in the video stems from the delay in the investigation process. Despite 26 days of investigation, there had been no arrests, leaving the woman feeling even more aggrieved.
While the specific details of the case and the FIR are still unclear, this incident has sparked a broader conversation about the importance of effective policing in addressing public concerns and upholding principles of justice and accountability.
