Kolkata man claims he received a ‘defective’ Tata Tiago EV, X post goes viral

The man said he took the car to the service centre many times to fix a cranking noise but the issue couldn’t be resolved.

Kolkata man claims he received a ‘defective’ Tata Tiago EVChitrabhanu Pathak took to X, formerly Twitter, on December 20 to post his ‘awful’ experience with Tata Motors.

Buying a new car is a dream for many people. However, a Kolkata man’s dream of owning a luxurious EV car turned sour when he had to run from pillar to post to fix its “manufacturing defects”.

Chitrabhanu Pathak (@ChitrabhanuPath) took to X, formerly Twitter, on December 20 to post his ‘awful’ experience with Tata Motors. He purchased a new Tata Tiago EV XZ Plus Tech LUX for Rs 12 lakh but claimed to have gotten one with “major manufacturing defects”.

When he took the car to the service centre, they spot-welded it to stop the cranking noise from the car. But it still didn’t solve the issue, Pathak said.

“A gift from Tata Motors. A underprepared Tiago EV XZPLUS TECHLUX car from Tata Motors. Paid twelve lac rupees to get this luxury car but got a faulty one with major manufacturing defects. Service center spot welded to stop the cranking noise from the car. But all in vein,” Pathak posted on X. Pathak also posted several photographs of the car showing the spots where welding was done.

“Why did u even accept this solution? Spot welding will certainly change a lot of parameters especially the crash worthiness. Simply they should have given a new car to you,” a user posted.

Replying to him, Pathak wrote, “I did not accept the solution yet. I wrote to them to replace with a new car or refund me or give me appropriate compensation. I did not receive any reply regarding this yet.”

“Its a vehicle which had accident before perhaps and it was delivered to you. It was repaired and sold as new it seems,” said another.

When a user asked if he carried out a pre-delivery inspection, Pathak said initially there was not much noise. He said he took the car to the service centre several times but only during the last visit, they found the noise was coming from the body joint. He said even after they tried to fix it, ‘noises were still coming from all around the car’. Pathak added that his car has been at the service centre since November 28, and they have not resolved the issue till now.
