After Sachin Tendulkar, if there is any player who has won the hearts of the people of this cricket fanatic country, it is undoubtedly Virat Kohli. The talismanic captain of the Indian cricket team hardly requires any introduction. Ever since he lifted the U-19 World Cup in 2008, ‘Cheeku’ – as Virat is famously called – has had a dream run and is on a record-breaking spree. In 2014, he was handed the reins of the Test team and since then he has led the ‘Men in Blue’ to the Number 1 ranking.

Hailed as one of the most successful batsmen in recent times, Kohli occupies the top spot in both the ICC ODI and T20 rankings for batsmen. The Delhi-lad has accumulated 4658 runs in 60 Tests, 9030 runs in 202 ODIs and 1943 in 54 T20s. However, what separates Kohli from his contemporaries is his aggressive nature and has come to be known as someone who wears his heart on his sleeve.

On his 29th birthday, several personalities, former cricketers, fans and well-wishers came together to pour in accolades for Team India captain. While some shared their favourite moments of the player, many posted pictures of the star batsman. While one user wrote, “He’s one of the finest batsmen in the world in all three formats & We Love Your & Ranbir’s Friendship”, another wrote, “The man who is evolving both on and off the field, becoming an inspiration for others, leading from the front #HappyBirthdayVirat.”

Here is how people on social media are wishing him.

However, Kohli’s birthday eve didn’t turn out to be very memorable as the team lost the second T20I against New Zealand by 40 runs.
