Celebrations erupted across India as the Men in Blue triumphed over New Zealand in the final of Champions Trophy 2025 on Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Fans in Hyderabad and Maharashtra took to the streets, cheering loudly and dancing in joy. However, the celebrations turned uncontrollable at times, prompting police to intervene with a lathi charge.

In a viral video shared by a journalist, hundreds of fans can be seen celebrating near Dilsukh Nagar in Hyderabad. According to the post, the large gathering triggered a massive traffic jam as several fans created a nuisance by trying to enter the Metro station and blocking the highway. “Police used mild #LathiCharge to disperse the gathering, as some of them were created traffic jam, by blocking the Highway and created Nuisance by disturbing other people and tried to enter the Metro station. In the videos it seen few women and children were in fear after seeing the mob,” the post read.

In another video from Nagpur, Maharashtra, a large crowd of fans gathered on the streets to celebrate India’s victory. The footage shows police officers instructing shops to close and dispersing the jubilant crowd. Sharing the video, ANI wrote, “Maharashtra | Police dispersed the uncontrolled crowd in Nagpur during the team India’s victory celebrations.”

India secured their third Champions Trophy title on Sunday as they defeated New Zealand by four wickets. The win also marked team India’s seventh ICC title, starting with the 1983 World Cup win. The team has now secured two Cricket World Cups, three Champions Trophies, and two T20 World Cups, trailing only Australia’s record of 10 ICC titles. Rohit Sharma also became the second Indian captain, after MS Dhoni, to win multiple ICC trophies.
