Getting a seat on a Mumbai local train is no easy task, particularly at rush hour. In an attempt to secure a comfy seat, commuters have long used a variety of tactics, occasionally even jumping into the train before it completely stops. But one passenger’s distinctive approach to the everyday commute, as seen in a recent viral video, has elevated “jugaad” to a whole new level.
In the footage, a man with his own portable chair is seen getting on the crowded train. Other passengers look amused as he carefully opens his backpack, takes out a small plastic stool, unfolds it, and sits down while the coach fills up. He continues to remain sitting, unaffected by the commotion going on around him.

On realising that someone was filming him, the man flashed a victory sign, adding to the charm.
Originally shared by Instagram user @borivali_churchgate_bhajan, the video has already received over 4 million views, sparking comments from amused viewers across social media.
One user wrote, “Uncle rocked and everyone is shocked.” Another user quipped, “Ye technique mumbai ke bahar jani nai chaiye,” roughly translating to, “This secret technique shall not be known outside Mumbai.” A third person added, “He found the Loophole.”
Recently, a video went viral showing a passenger on a train making his own hammock, turning heads online. The clip captured the resourceful commuter weaving a hammock between two upper berths with a thick rope, not just setting up a makeshift seat but creating a sturdy, comfortable setup for himself.
