A Christmas morning clip from Bengaluru has struck a chord online, capturing the city’s traffic paradox during the holidays. The video, posted on Instagram by @wanderjoy on December 25, humorously contrasts what the roads look like for those driving into the city versus those heading out.

Titled ‘Nice Road traffic situation on 25th Dec’, the clip opens with a calm, almost deserted stretch of road marked with the text: “Entering Bengaluru on 25th Dec, 7 am.” Seconds later, the camera pans to the opposite side, revealing a completely different picture, bumper-to-bumper vehicles crawling along the carriageway. The caption on screen reads: “Exiting Bengaluru on 25th Dec, 7:15 am.”

The stark difference didn’t go unnoticed. The comments section quickly filled with amused takes from viewers. One person summed it up by saying, “Holiday means half of Bangalore rushes out of city.” Another joked that Christmas is “The period when travel inside Bangalore is like in 90s era.”

Some users even defended staying back in the city. “Its peaceful to stay in Bangalore during holidays,” one comment read. Others took a more sarcastic tone, with a user writing, “Bangaloreans First make Bangalore chaotic during working days…then go on too make tourist places chaotic during weekends n holiday.”

Amid the jokes, one commenter added context to the congestion, noting, “That is because one major accident happened at NH48 near by chitradurga… we were stuck for 4-5 hours.”

Bengaluru’s traffic woes are well known, with the city frequently ranking among India’s most congested. But long weekends and festive breaks often turn the pattern upside down, quieter neighbourhood roads inside the city and packed highways leading out. A similar scene played out during Diwali earlier this year, when many social media users remarked that Bengaluru felt almost like a ‘ghost town.’
