The investor went on to explain how he and his wife manage their financesLife doesn’t always move in a straight line. One moment, everything feels perfectly in place; the next, it takes an unexpected turn. A recent post on X captured that sentiment — when a Bengaluru-based investor’s candid reflection on his life and finances went viral, sparking a widespread discussion about simplicity, wealth, and purpose.
In his post, the investor spoke about how his life had evolved over the years and what “a simple life” means to him today. “I married the love of my life when I was 25. Had a child when my love was 28. My son is 10 & is homeschooled as per Indian Knowledge systems & registered with NIOS along with many of his friends. All of them learn at own pace and not in rat race. I am 40 now,” he wrote.
He went on to explain how he and his wife manage their finances, living within their means despite having more than enough. “My last Salary was in March 2019. Only Long-Term Investing & SWP for many years now. Simple Life!!! What’s your story?” he added.

The post struck a chord, quickly going viral with over a million views. People from all walks of life began responding, each sharing their own version of a “simple life.” One user, who served in the Indian Air Force, wrote, “Joined IAF at 20 after 12th Science, trained in Chennai, served 20+ years across India supporting fighter aircraft servicing. Joined MH Registration Department in 2016, reduced stamp duty refund pendency, worked on stamp duty targets, now legal cell. Living simply, serving others.”

However, not everyone shared the same perspective on simplicity. One user explained why he didn’t plan to retire anytime soon: “I’m 32 now. And honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever retire, not if my health permits. Because I truly love what I do. I live in my own flat today, and I’m also constructing my own house… I use credit cards not for show-off, but strategically to stay in some of the best hotels, fly comfortably, and save money through rewards.”

People shared their stories in the comments as well. A user wrote, “Never found love. A 31-year-old man who got cheated by a partner & betrayed by friends.Tired of work politics & fake dating world where money > emotions Now, I’ve turned my pain into fuel, chasing greatness in markets. One goal: Make my parents proud.”
Another user, who wasn’t impressed, wrote, “How Long !! Overconfidence kills everything including the spirit.”
