The ongoing tension between India and Pakistan following the Uri attack that killed 18 soldiers has gripped a majority of the population from both countries. Earlier this month, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) threatened Pakistani artists working in India to leave the country. The issue of the ban on Pakistani artists gained momentum after a lot of people from the industry and otherwise spoke for and against it. Staging a different kind of protest against Pakistan, comedian Varun Grover has called for a ban on ajwain (carom seeds) and sendha namak (rock salt) India imports from Pakistan.

In a series of sarcastic tweets, he said that the country imports the two from the neighbours whose “films & artists we’ve decided to hate”. He requested people to screenshot his tweets and make a forward message for all ‘true’ Indians. “While the soldiers are dying, we ignorant fools are eating kuttu ki tikkiyaan with PAKISTANI namak (how gaddaar we are!) & Ajwain. STOP NOW!” he tweeted. He also put a video burning ajwain to prove he actually boycotted it!

His tweets have garnered a massive response on social media. “and all the outlets of Karachi Halwa and Karachi bakery,” wrote a user.

Did you get the point? We’ll leave you with that thought. Meanwhile, did you burn ajwain!?
