An angry elephant created a ruckus during a community meal near the Mani Mai Temple on Dehradun Road under the Lacchiwala Forest Range. The incident unfolded when a herd of wild elephants strayed close to the gathering on Saturday night, triggering panic among people, Jagran Hindi reported.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 8.30 pm, when a male and female elephant, and a calf, emerged from the forest and approached the road near the event site. One of the elephants in the herd reportedly trumpeted loudly and overturned two parked trolleys, the report said.
Forest inspector Puran Singh Rawat, who led the response team, immediately reached the spot with his staff. The community meal tent was swiftly evacuated, and officials used sound bombs and crackers to drive the elephants back into the forest. The area was patrolled through the night to ensure safety, the report added.

As reported, the police also arrived to assist in crowd control and traffic management. A brief traffic jam on the Dehradun–Haridwar highway was cleared promptly, ensuring that vehicles moved without delay.
“No major injury or fatality was reported, but the potential for disaster was very real,” a forest department official said.
In 2022, an elephant crushed two elderly persons and injured two more in Odisha’s Cuttack after it strayed from the nearby forests of the Athagarh division, reports said.
In another incident reported in 2023, an angry elephant demolished a series of vehicles in Kongad, Palakkad district of Kerala. According to reports, the tethered elephant managed to break free, and created a ruckus on the streets.
