AIB’s Tanmay Bhat, currently under fire for his recent roast of legends Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar (watch the video here), had expected all the backlash coming his way. Much before the video went viral, Tanmay had tweeted: “When you guys write about me tomorrow can you please use my snapchat ID – it’s thetanmay thanks”.

For AIB, creating controversy through their roasts isn’t new. Last year, the comedy outfit was in the line of fire for a roast they’d organised involving top Bollywood celebrities such as Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Karan Johar. The backlash on this roast seems to be on similar lines, which is probably why the comedian tweeted: “Roast wale din yaad aa gaye by god”.

Going by some of the cryptic tweets Tanmay has been tweeting, it seems the comedian is conducting some sort of a social experiment. After his video went viral, Tanmay took to Twitter asking his followers to check out a statement on the issue on Snapchat.
Issued a statement on my Snapchat – follow me on ID – thetanmay. Please RT

In the Snapchat statement, Tanmay asked those viewers who liked the video to email their views to him at a particular email ID, explaining what they liked. He even tweeted out saying people should expect a ‘snapstory’ soon. We wonder what he meant by that… or was he just being sarky?!
A snapstory is going to be on the news tonight. Congrats everyone.

As an aside, a lot of interest has generated around the Snapchat app, which is where Tanmay has been directing his audience. Justifiably, he even demanded a cut!

In direct response to those trolling him, Tanmay seems to make light of it saying:
Melissandre reference made it to local marathi channels. #globalization
— Tanmay Bhat (@thetanmay) May 29, 2016
He had even called out detractors with a couple of tweets, which he surprisingly deleted later.
The comedian seems to be on a roll with a series of solo videos over the past week. Earlier it was a rant on people who don’t understand feminism (read about it here), and then this ‘Sachin v/s Lata Civil War’ video, that suggests there might be more to this than just a one-off thing. Or is this an attempt to create some AIB-style buzz after its first season ‘On Air with AIB’ finished off to a lukewarm response?
