It’s not every day that you get to enjoy a quiet meal at a restaurant with an Oscar-winning celebrity next to you. That’s what happened to Vietnamese YouTuber Khoa Pug during a trip to Japan. He ended up filming an entire vlog with Natalie Portman in the background, without realising who she is, and now, the clip has gone viral.

While reviewing sushi at a restaurant in Japan, Khoa chatted with his viewers and shared his thoughts on the food, just like in his usual videos. Meanwhile, in the background, Portman can be seen enjoying her meal, laughing with friends, clicking pictures, and just generally having fun.

Khoa apparently only realised the Hollywood icon’s presence after reviewing the footage. The video, uploaded on May 11, was titled: “Khoa Pug sits down to eat with an Oscar-winning Hollywood star…” and it quickly blew up, amassing 1.4 million views on YouTube.

Social media users were quick to praise the moment for how wholesome and low-key it was, and how refreshingly normal Portman seemed. One viewer commented: “I bet she loved that she was just another person sitting next to him and he didn’t bother her at all. The way she looked at that red fish — pure joy and amazement. It was cool to see.”

Another wrote, “I just found out about this channel through the news — and wow, I can’t believe this guy was sitting next to Natalie Portman! That moment really blew my mind. What a surreal experience.”

A third user said, “Many celebrities would have asked him to stop recording, even if he wasn’t filming them. It’s awesome that Natalie didn’t make a fuss and just enjoyed her day like anyone else.”

Khoa Pug is a popular YouTube travel vlogger with over 4.7 million subscribers. Known for his global adventures, he has explored destinations like Dubai, South Africa, Japan, the United States, and more. He creates video series in each location, reviewing local cuisine and interacting with residents. Occasionally, he films prank videos where he pretends to be either extremely wealthy or poor. He also attended the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
