The Republican Party’s anti-women agenda is a blatant truth known to all. So, when the Republic National Convention was held on July 17 in Cleveland, Ohio, 100 naked women used the opportunity to hold a peaceful protest against the party’s hate for women.
The mass protest was organised by photographer Spencer Tunick, who had named the project ‘Everything she says means everything’ and was reportedly working on it for months.
Tunick’s previous successful works include the Sea of Hull, in which a large number of volunteers in the nude got together at the Hull City Centre in England, to paint themselves and get documented by the internationally renowned photographer.
According to The Huffington Post, Tunick’s objective was to use the power of collective creation as a means to combat the Republican Party’s and Donald Trump’s agenda that least favoured women, while protesting peacefully.
His idea was evidently seconded by many women, with many of them signing up to participate in the protest, according to reports. While a few women were hesitant and even scared to participate in the nude protest initially, Trump’s bigotry and rhetoric against women were reasons enough for them to change their minds, said media reports.
Spencer’s website contains statements of the women who participated in the protest and addresses the women as ‘women art warriors’. The women were asked to hold a round mirror during the shoot. Tunick explained that the women were given the mirrors because women are a reflection and embodiment of nature, the sun, the sky and the land.
Donald Trump, has in the past made some reprehensible statements about women, while he claims to cherish them. When Fox News’ Megyn Kelly questioned Trump on his sexist comments during his GOP debate in August 2015, he laughed off saying he doesn’t have the time for total-political correctedness, as an answer. According to media sources, this is one of the many instances when Trump has belittled women and has even gone on to make remarks on women on social media.
