Refusing to be cowered down by a cyber bully, this woman decides to fight for her right to privacy.
A brave young woman has decided to take on her cyber blackmailer head on with a gutsy Facebook post, and she’s got the world’s support with her. In what can be read as yet another alarming fallout of blurring the lines between our real lives and the virtual, a US-based Indian woman’s cloud back-up was hacked, followed by a blackmail threat from the hacker. But instead of cowering to his ridiculous demands, Taruna Aswani has decided to take him head on.
In a Facebook post, Aswani clearly states that her cloud back-up has been compromised and the hacker wrote her an email saying that the only way to keep him quiet was to ‘excite’ him! “All I am saying is if you want me to keep quiet on this and don’t let the world(social media, Work place,family and friends) know then you have to excite me… I have access to your all your friends/social media.and family and co-workers…” he wrote in the email to her.
Aswani shared screenshots of two emails the man – who seems to email by the name ‘kevin john’ – along with her post, saying, “I choose to stand up to this man. Instead of cowering down to his requests. I do this so that other women may take a lesson to stand up to bullies and low life’s like this and may get the confidence to stand up as well in case he is known to us and is targeting all of us, but we’re either too scared, ashamed or clueless in how to manage or handle such situations.”

According to this, she has already hired a detective and has appealed to those reading the post to share it and help “in nabbing this sick pervert”.
Support has poured in from many across the social media site, with people offering to connect her with cyber security firms and directing her towards Google. Most have urged her to stay strong and keep fighting. Aswani told IndianExpress.com that so far the man has not been caught or identified, but everything is being done to make this as public as possible so that he can be identified.
