The Internet culture has brought a flavour of fake news and spoiler alerts to social media pages, and law enforcement agencies around the world are set to get an essence of that in their mechanism to enforce law and order. From punny tweets to sarcastic GIFs from super hit sitcoms, police officers around the world are showing citizens how to make a fair point with memes. Now, making a reference is one thing, but threatening to punish people with spoilers – isn’t it too much? While the world is busy watching ‘Stranger Things’ on Netflix, one police department in the US has warned people not to break laws as they have laden the cells at the station with the show’s spoilers.

Can’t believe it? Well, it’s true. The East Lansing Police Department in Michigan, US, issued a threat on Twitter warning people about the consequences of being arrested. Whether they meant it as a laughing matter or not —  a trip to their lock-up would mean knowing what would unfurl in the fantasy show’s next episodes. “We’ve taped Stranger Things spoilers all over the walls of our jail this week. Some extra motivation for you to not end up there,” the cops wrote on the micro-blogging site. The message was accompanied by a GIF of show’s character Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) eating an Eggo waffle.

Check out the tweet here.

Fans of the show did not take the threat lightly. While many thought it was too harsh, a few others thought it was a lame threat as people might have already binged-watched it.

The cops later confirmed that they really did not tape the episode but by that time it had already got everyone talking. However, it is not the only police department that loves ‘Stranger Things’. Ever since the second season was announced, Mumbai Police keeps posting photos and GIFs from the show and today was no exception too. Take a look at this tweet.

Weird, isn’t it?
