These two women in Iowa wore flowing gowns to their wedding, only to light them up once the ceremony was over! They set their flowing gowns on fire after walking down the aisle — and then posed for photos wearing the burning dresses.

April Choi and Bethany Byrnes – who are both variety entertainers and have done many fire-related stunts – decided to do their biggest stunt on their wedding day. Stunning all their guests, they chose a person from each wedding party to torch the trains of their gowns. The dramatic footage of the moment, and the photos, are blowing people’s minds.

To pull off their epic stunt, the newlyweds wore fire-resistant cotton tights to protect their legs, and the train that was doused with fuel was a detachable skirt that could be unfastened in seconds if the fire spread. They also planned their ceremony to ensure the photos of the ceremony were taken in the dark, and hosted the wedding reception earlier in the afternoon. At sunset they exchanged vows and then set their gowns on fire.

They also took all possible measures to ensure the stunt was carried out safely.

“Their guests included eight fire performers and a certified pyrotechnic. There was also a medic in the crowd, and the couple took other steps to ensure the stunt was safe including wetting the ground and having fire extinguishers on hand,” a Daily Mail report said.

“I don’t think I will ever forget it and nor will anybody else who attended the wedding, especially our parents who were greatly concerned for our safety. They were very, very nervous,” Choi told South West News Service.

Photographer Michael Huang, one of the lensmen who was standing about 10 feet from the women, said the moment passed so quickly he didn’t have time to worry about the heat. According to Kansas City News, Huang said, “Every wedding I shoot is different, but this is way out. It was an honour to be able to capture this beautiful moment.”

The responses to the wedding photos and video have been mixed on social media. While some were flabbergasted by the stunning photos, others criticised the duo for burning the dress. Some said it might encourage others to imitate this stunt despite not having the same expertise.
