Wolfram Gottschalk and his wife Anita cry every time they see each
They had been together for 62 years before they were forced to live separate lives in different nursing homes in Surrey, Canada. Wolfram Gottschalk and his wife Anita cry every time they see each other because they can’t be under the same roof at the moment.
Their granddaughter Ashley Bartyik shared their struggle to be together on Facebook and her post has garnered massive support. She narrates that 83-year-old Wolfram and 81-year-old Anita reside in separate health care facilities in Surrey; he is at Yale Road and she is at Morgan Heights for the past eight months.
To make matters worse, she says that the grandfather has been diagnosed with Lymphoma, a form of cancer which makes it more important for the two to spend time together. In her post, she claims that he is suffering from dementia at the same time and becoming increasingly forgetful but his memory of her grandmother is intact. “We are afraid however that if they are living apart much longer, his memory of her won’t stay,” she writes, due to which, they have to make her meet him every two days after travelling for 30 minutes.
“I just want to see them together. They’re a pillar of strength in our family. She is just begging anyone that can help her get her husband back. It’s been very, very difficult for our family,” Bartyik told CBC News.
She also told Daily Mail that her grandfather often sits by the window dreaming of his wife walking towards her and calling out his nickname.
In the picture clicked by her, the two can be seen weeping while sitting in front of each other.
Reportedly, Fraser Health, the health care service, has taken note of the issue is trying to reunite the old couple. “We are also exploring options other than this particular facility that his wife is at now. Certainly when the scope is narrowed to one facility, it becomes difficult to place them there, because we have to wait for another bed to become available,” spokesperson Tasleem Juma was quotesd as saying.
