With a star-studded guest list flaunting their high fashion moments, the Met Gala generates hullabaloo on social media each year. As the Internet is gearing up for Met Gala 2024, here are the viral moments from last year’s red carpet that triggered a frenzy.
Cockroach making its appearance on the red carpet
There was an uninvited guest at the Met Gala 2023 – a cockroach. The insect was spotted on the carpet and had prompted hilarious reactions from fashion aficionados, who called it ‘best dressed’.
“A cockroach has arrived at the #MetGala,” Variety wrote.

Tennis star Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, revealed they were expecting their second child at the Met Gala 2023.
Karlie Kloss, too, stunned the red carpet, flaunting her baby bump. She opted for a body-hugging black gown and adorned pearls, following the theme.
Doja cat dressed as a cat
Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini aka Doja Cat wore an ivory shimmery dress with a cat head cover with ears. When a media person asked her a few questions about her dress, she replied “Meow”, the video of which went viral.
Alia Bhatt’s debut at the Met Gala 2023
Alia Bhatt made a stunning debut at the Met Gala 2023, becoming a muse for designer Prabal Gurung. Paying tribute to Karl Lagerfeld, the actor’s gown was inspired by supermodel Claudia Schiffer’s 1992 Chanel bridal look, which Dua Lipa wore to the red carpet.
The 2024 Met Gala will take place on Monday, May 6. This year’s theme will celebrate the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”. Last year’s theme honoured Karl Lagerfeld, who was a regular attendee at The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute.
